One of nature’s best kept secrets

A bucket-list beach thanks to its naturally hollowed out reef, it’s easy to see why The Basin is one of the most popular beaches on Wadjemup / Rottnest Island.

Located just a 10-minute walk from the main settlement, it’s the perfect place to relax and reconnect as you feel the soft sand between your toes and the warm sun on your face.

Take a dip in the safe, protected waters or put on your mask and snorkel to discover another world below the surface with more than 400 species of fish, as well as beautiful purple, pink and brown shades of coral.

Recently refurbished, make the most of the new outdoor showers, BBQs and toilet facilities — perfect for your family fun day.

Where to find The Basin

Located just 10 minutes from the main settlement, The Basin is easily accessible on foot, or by bike. Just follow the signposts and you’ll soon arrive at this world-renowned beach.

Explore a new world beneath the surface

Stunningly beautiful with crystal clear, warm waters thanks to the Leeuwin Current, The Basin is an underwater haven just waiting to be discovered.

Calm and protected when the wind blows from the south-east, south or south-west, thanks to its natural barrier, it’s the ideal place for kids or beginners to get used to snorkelling while exploring the plethora of fish attracted to the seagrass.

The natural bowl or “basin” is a great place to look for fish and crustaceans.
